Services

We provide services for improving existing practices towards more sustainable and safer ship dismantling. Our services include Risk Management, Provision of Action Plan, Supply of Equipment, Training and Certification Services.

Risk Management

After surveying the facility’s operations and interviewing facility managers we identify risks associated with each activity in the dismantling and recycling process. Once risks have been identified, they are assessed as to their potential severity and to the probability of occurrence. Possible technical and methodological alternatives are then presented for reducing the probability of occurring or reducing the severity of the consequences. The risk analysis employs a cost benefit approach which means it attempts to quantify the cost and benefits of potential investments. By investing in protective head gear that cost x, head injuries will decrease by 95% and insurance costs and compensation payments will decrease by y.

Action plan

The action plan is a proposal of the necessary investments, beneficial for the safety and health of the workers as well as the environment, that will insure that current dismantling process becomes in compliance with IMO’s guidelines for ship recycling. Depending on the initial level of a facility’s practices the action plan is divided in stages for partial improvement with the IMO’s standard as the final objective.

Supply of equipment

Swedish Maritime Environmental Markets represents a group of companies that can supply necessary equipment formulated in the action plan. Each supplier is responsible for delivery, installation, necessary operational training  and maintenance services.

Training

Educational efforts providing a greater understanding of the consequences from various activities is an important part for improvement. Safety and for environmental protection can many times be significantly improved with no investments, just by training personnel in safety measures and handling hazardous materials.

Certification Services

Certification of a facility’s operation is a way of documenting today’s practices and insuring that activities are performed and investments being made to gradually work towards a higher level of safety, health and environmental protection. It is the best way to show ship owners interested in disposing their ships that they will be dismantled in a safer and environmentally friendlier manor.
